Wolfgang Windisch (born January 22, 1953 in Munich ) is a German drummer , composer and cultural advisor.

Education and career

Windisch began to play the drums autodidactically in the late 1960s. From 1972 to 1977 he studied percussion and timpani with Hans Hölzl at the University of Music in Munich. From 1977 to 1979 he attended the master class at the same institute. At the same time he studied jazz drums with Joe Nay at the Munich Jazz School . Private studies with Enrique Ugarte (composition) and Ernst Horn (conducting) followed later .

Life

Musical work as a drummer (1969–1991)

Windisch initially played in local amateur bands in the Munich area. In 1973, the then well-known rock band “ Out of Focus ” signed the 20-year-old. After a short time, however, Windisch preferred to start studying classical music at the Munich Music Academy. From 1975 he helped out several times in the two large Munich symphony orchestras ( Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , Munich Philharmonic ). Numerous engagements as a studio drummer followed. From 1977 Windisch became a stage musician at the two major Munich theaters ( Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel and Münchner Kammerspiele ). There he worked a. a. with the directors Ingmar Bergman , Leopold Lindtberg , Hans Hollmann , Hans Lietzau , Dieter Dorn and Peter Zadek . From 1983 to 1985 Windisch played drums and percussion in Konstantin Wecker's band .

Musical creation as a composer (1984–1996)

Windisch composed over 50 stage music in German and Austrian theaters. He also wrote some industrial music. Windisch is co-author of a theatrical version of the play "The Jungle Book", which was performed in some German-speaking theaters. From 1986 to 1989 Windisch was musical director at the Theater der Jugend in Munich. He followed the artistic director Jürgen Flügge in the same function at the Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen (1989-1993). From 1993 to 1996 Windisch was a freelance composer at the following theaters: Nationaltheater Mannheim , Landestheater Tübingen , Theater Gera , Theater Ulm , Staatstheater Braunschweig , Schauspiel Leipzig , Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel and at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.

Work as cultural advisor (from 1996)

From 1996 to 2019 Windisch was cultural advisor for the university town of Garching. He has been a freelance booker & consultant in the field of culture since 2019.
