history

The journal appeared for the first time in 1853 under the title Journal for General Geography (editor: Thaddäus Eduard Gumprecht (1801-1856)). Previously there were "Monthly reports on the negotiations of the Society for Geography in Berlin" (1840-1852) and "Annual overview of the activities of the Society for Geography in Berlin" (1833-1839). The program of the journal was then to be regarded as: Research reports from the research fronts of the sub- and neighboring disciplines of geography, actors in research were presented, books were discussed, and the latest findings, mainly obtained through expeditions, were reported. The magazine did not appear between 1944 and 1949.
