Hartmut Readers

Hartmut Leser (born November 23, 1939 in Naumburg (Saale) ) is a German physiogeographer and landscape ecologist .

Life

Readers graduated from high school in his hometown in 1958. He studied geography , geology , zoology and soil science from 1959 to 1961 at the Technical University of Stuttgart and from 1961 to 1965 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1965 he received his doctorate in Bonn under Carl Troll as Dr. rer. nat. From 1965 to 1969 he was Herbert Wilhelmy's research assistant at the Geographical Institute of the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , where he also received his habilitation in 1969. In the same year he became a university lecturer, and in 1971 a scientific councilor and professor at theTechnical University of Hanover .

From 1973 until his retirement in 2005 he was full professor for physiogeography and landscape ecology and director of the Geographical Institute at the University of Basel .

His research areas are landscape ecology, methodology, geomorphology and cartography. Readers published over 400 essays and treatises in professional journals as well as festschriften, textbooks and compilations.
