Vladimir Alexandrowitsch Kolokolzew ( Russian Владимир Александрович Колокольцев ; born May 11, 1961 in Nizhny Lomov , Penza Oblast ) is a Russian politician. He has been Minister of the Interior in the government of the Russian Federation since May 2012 .

Kolokolzew completed his training as a police officer in the Soviet Union and began his service in 1982 with a special unit that was assigned to guard foreign embassies and missions in Moscow . He later completed a law degree and returned to the police service after completing his doctorate . After a career with the Moscow criminal police, Kolokolzew moved to the Russian Interior Ministry. In 2007 he was appointed head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of Oryol Oblast . In September 2009 he became police chief of Moscow. Kolokolzew holds the rank of lieutenant general .

As head of the Moscow police, Kolokolzew was responsible, among other things, for police operations during the protests after the parliamentary elections in 2011 . In May 2012 he was appointed Interior Minister of the Russian Federation by the newly elected President Vladimir Putin . He is the successor to Raschid Nurgalijew in this office . Kolokolzew is married, he has a son and a daughter.
