Raschid Gumarowitsch Nurgalijew
Raschid Gumarovič Nurgalijew ( Russian Рашид Гумарович Нургалиев , scientific transliteration Rašid Gumarovič Nurgaliev ; born October 8, 1956 in Schitiqara , Kazakh SSR ) is a Russian politician and army general . From January 2004 to May 2012 he was Minister of the Interior of the Russian Federation .
Nurgalijew comes from a family of officers and is of Tatar origin. In 1979 he received his diploma in economics in the Karelian city of Petrozavodsk , with which he still feels at home today. In 1981 he joined the KGB and became head of the Counter-Terrorism Department of the Republic of Karelia . From 1995 to 2002 he held several offices in the Federal Counterintelligence Service (FSK) and its successor, the domestic secret service FSB .
From 2002 to 2004 Nurgaliev was the first deputy interior minister of Russia. On January 2, 2004, Nurgalijew became Russian Interior Minister . In this office he succeeded Boris Gryslow , who resigned on the occasion of his election as Duma chairman.
On May 21, 2012, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev presented his new cabinet. Nurgaliev was no longer a member. Vladimir Kolokolzew was appointed as the successor to Nurgalijew . After his dismissal, the Russian media described Nurgaliev as "the most unpopular interior minister in modern Russian history".
Since May 22, 2012, Nurgaliev has been Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation .
Nurgalijew is married and has two grown sons. His older son Maksim is an officer, his younger son Raschid is with the FSB secret service . Nurgalijew is also an avowed vegetarian and has been playing ice hockey since childhood .
Nurgalijew has been an honorary citizen of Petrozavodsk since June 2017 .
