Hans-Georg Bohle

Hans-Georg Bohle (born March 3, 1948 in Hildesheim ; † September 20, 2014 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German geographer and development researcher.

From 1968 he studied at the University of Göttingen , where he was a research assistant at the Institute of Geography from 1977 to 1985, receiving his doctorate in 1979 and habilitation in 1985. From 1986 to 1995 he was Professor of Cultural Geography at the Institute for Cultural Geography at the University of Freiburg, from 1995 to 2004 Professor of Geography of South Asia at the Geographical Institute and the South Asia Institute of the University of Heidelberg , from 2003 until his retirement in 2013, Professor of Geographical Development Research at the Geographical Institute of the University of Bonn .

His research interests in human geography were primarily in the areas of geographic development research , resilience , vulnerability , geographic risk research and livelihoods , with a regional focus on the developing countries of South Asia.

2006/07 he was chairman of the Institute for Environment and Human Security of the United Nations University . He was on the Board of Trustees of the Munich Re Foundation . In 2001 Bohle was appointed a member of the Academia Europaea , followed in 2007 by the election of a member of the Leopoldina .
