Martin Coy

Martin Coy (born December 25, 1954 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German geographer and university professor at the University of Innsbruck .

Life

Martin Coy studied geography, economics, agricultural policy, geology and soil science at the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1975 to 1980 . After graduating in geography, he went on to study ethnology and social anthropology at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris . In 1987, Martin Coy completed his doctorate with Gerd Kohlhepp at the University of Tübingen with a thesis on regional development in the Brazilian Amazon and thus also continued the work focus on agricultural colonization of Leo Waibel and Gottfried Pfeifer . In 1998 the habilitation followed in Tübingen.

Martin Coy has held the professorship for Applied Geography and Sustainability Research at the Institute for Geography at the University of Innsbruck since 2006 . He is also a board member of the Austrian Institute for Latin America , an advisory board for Latin America Research Austria and a member of the steering committee of the Megacities task force of the International Geographical Union .

Focus

In his work, Martin Coy is particularly concerned with the area of geographic development research , settlement and urban geography . The regional focus is on Latin America , especially Brazil , and more recently in the Alpine region . His applied research focuses particularly on aspects of sustainable urban and regional development .
