Today's Woman was an illustrated women's magazine in the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR . It appeared from 1946 to 1962 and is not identical to the weekly women's magazine "Frau von heute", which is published by Funke Medien .

The first issue of the magazine appeared on February 1, 1946 in the Soviet occupation zone as an organ of the municipal women's committees in the Allgemeine Deutsche Verlag , East Berlin , Jägerstrasse 10-11.

Until November 1947 it was the organ of the communal women's committees of the Soviet occupation zone, from issue no. 5 in 1948 the Democratic Women's Association of Germany (DFD) took over the editorial office, which it held until the magazine was discontinued at the end of 1962. In the same year 1948 the magazine changed the publisher by decision of the SED Secretariat and appeared until 1953 in the Deutsches Frauenverlag GmbH Berlin, from 1953 in the publisher for the woman Leipzig .

After the founding of the GDR in 1949, all existing women's magazines in the Soviet zone of occupation - such as the German Women's Press Service , New Women's Life , Die Berlinerin , Für Dich - were integrated or dissolved in Die Frau von heute . Since 1950, Die Frau von heute was published as the only women's magazine in the GDR. For the Federal Republic of Germany, a separate edition of the magazine Die Frau von heute was produced from 1953 until the ban in 1958 and appeared quarterly.

The first editor-in-chief was Charlotte Hohmann , followed in 1948 by Majoll Charlotte Büttner , after her replacement in 1951 Ilse Reinicke briefly took over the management and after her replacement or her leaving the GDR Ursula Wohlenberg became editor-in-chief from 1953 to 1962.

The circulation fluctuated in the years 1946 to 1962 between 300,000 and 600,000 copies.

In the GDR in 1963, the women's illustrated Für Dich again became the successor to today's woman .
