The story of the first lady, the landlady, is a fairy tale from the Arabian Nights . It is in Claudia Otts translation as The story of the first lady, the lady of the house (Nights 63–66, 69), in Gustav Weil as the story of the first girl .

The lady tells how she twice generously welcomes both older sisters when they are impoverished and abandoned by their husbands. A trade trip brings them together to a city where everyone is petrified. She falls in love with a young man who explains to her that it is fire worshipers who are not converted. The sisters envy her love and throw them overboard at night. She survives on an island and saves one snake from another snake. She thanks her by bringing her and her goods home, sinking the ship and turning the sisters into bitches. Since then, the lady has had to give each of them 300 strokes of the stick every night as punishment, otherwise she would be transformed herself.
The caliph hears the story and calls the serpent, an Ifritin , to redeem them.
