history

In 2015, the literary scholar and writer Hannelore Furch and the writer Hubert Michelis had the idea of holding an annual reading competition similar to the format of Group 47 and began to look for fellow campaigners. In memory of their role model, a loose group should be formed, whose name contains the number 48 as a continuation of group 47 . According to their concept, the two initiators joined together with ten other founding members in February 2016 in Rösrath to form a loose group 48 . Hannelore Furch and Hubert Michelis were chosen as the management team. By the end of 2017, members had reached 82. In December 2017, the loose group 48 formed into a non-profit association in order to be able to recruit sponsors and the number of members decreased.

As sponsors of the Group 48 awards in poetry and prose from 2017 , the Dr. Jürgen Rembold Foundation for the Promotion of Civic Engagement and Uta Oberkampf, both based in Rösrath. The award is sponsored by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR), Cologne, and the Dr. Jürgen Rembold Foundation, Rösrath.
