History and program

The Hörheatrale was founded in October 2009 by the actor Daniel Sempf, who brought the idea and the knowledge to the project, together with Markus Klauk , in order to perform listening events live and in front of an audience. The idea was, on the one hand, to combine the essence of radio play, stimulating one's own imagination through voice and noises, and, on the other hand, the essence of theater to create illusions. The event began on 23 October 2009, the first premiere with the piece The Teufelsfuß of Arthur Conan Doyle , in a radio play editor Daniel Sempf. The story is about Sherlock Holmes and his colleague Dr. Watson . Klauk took over the part of Holmes and Sempf that of Dr. Watson and all other characters. 25 performances in various clubs, bars and cinemas in and around Marburg followed. The German Institute for the Study of the Blind in the city of Marburg immediately became a regular venue for the ensemble. The Hörheatrale has had its permanent venue in the Lomonossowkeller in Marburg since September 2014. Up to five events a month take place here regularly, in addition to various guest performances in educational institutions and theaters in Hesse and beyond.

Due to the response, Sempf wrote a second piece after the crime story Die Tanzenden Männchen , also by Arthur Conan Doyle with Sherlock Holmes as the protagonist. There are now a total of seven short stories and novels about the detective, Bram Stoker's Dracula , the children's play Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm , The cold heart by W. Hauff, Caligula by A. Camus and The babbling heart by EA Poe by Sempf, edited in radio play versions Produced by the Hörtheatrale as live radio plays. The Hörtheatrale has placed its focus on the adaptation of novels from the Victorian era. Since 2014, a solid base of players has formed who appear regularly in various productions.

In 2017 Daniel Sempf realized the production as a sound designer in cooperation with the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg : 20,000 miles under the sea. A play that took place in absolute darkness. Eight boxes were distributed in the room and the actors moved around the audience in the dark. Sempf provided the sound and the music.

Live events

Live radio plays and audio plays and staged readings have been performed in front of an audience on a regular basis since 2009. Well-known actors and speakers act as protagonists. The Hessisches Landestheater Marburg has been co-producer several times .

In addition to permanent locations such as the Lomonossowkeller in Marburg and the premises of the theater, the Hörheatrale is always looking for special venues, such as B. the old Opel factory in Rüsselsheim. The Hörheatrale has been invited to the German Sherlock Holmes Society for the regular SherloCon since 2012.

The cultural promotion of the state of Wiesbaden has made it possible to offer audio theater events in schools throughout the entire state of Hesse. Up to 50 events are held each year.

A special feature of the audio theater pieces are the sound installations by the sound designer Q-Ben and Daniel Sempf. Each piece is clearly staged and the movements and the acting of the actors on the sounds are choreographed. In addition to a stage set made for Dracula by the Waldkobold art workshop, a light installation by Nicole Baier and Daniel Sempf will be designed for each piece and each location. Since the production of Dracula, which was discussed at hr-info , Die Hörtheatrale has been working with the musician Stefan Kissel. For this production he composed a soundtrack especially for the Rapunzel production.

Since 2011, the Hörtheatersommer Open Air has been held annually in Marburg on the initiative of the Hörheatrale. The occasion was the premiere of The Dog of Baskerville in summer 2010. In 2011, Dracula's mirror lust tower was discovered and the first summer auditorium festival was held. 2012 celebrated u. a. the fairy tale Rapunzel premiered at this festival. 2013 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde presented as a new production at the 2013 Listening Theater Summer Festival at the Spiegelslustturm.

In June 2013 Daniel Sempf and Markus Klauk went their separate ways. Legal owner of the name Die Hörtheatrale is Daniel Sempf.
