The focus of the film is on the inhabitants of Pirmasens, a town on the edge of the Palatinate Forest . The city was famous as a shoe metropolis, but globalization and the departure of American armed forces are causing problems for the city . Jobs and residents have been lost and the city has to fight against bad statistics and negative headlines.

The film portrays people who don't have much in common except for their love for their city: seven people from different social classes are accompanied in the film and show their view of the city.
