The small town is the first documentary film about the city of Pirmasens. Up until then there were many negative reports about the city, including a. at Spiegel TV , who drew attention to the bad statistics. This film shows the negative as well as the positive sides and lets the residents have their say. At the same time, the film gives an insight into the lives of the protagonists in a humorous way. The film manages in an intimate and honest way to capture the contradictions of the city without bothering morality.

The focus of the film is on the inhabitants of Pirmasens, a town on the edge of the Palatinate Forest . The city was famous as a shoe metropolis, but globalization and the departure of American armed forces are causing problems for the city . Jobs and residents have been lost and the city has to fight against bad statistics and negative headlines.
The film portrays people who don't have much in common except for their love for their city: seven people from different social classes are accompanied in the film and show their view of the city.
Awards
The film won the Special Jury Award at the Germany International Film Festival in Munich in 2018.
