Philipp Majer (* 1982 in Rodalben ) is a German filmmaker specializing in documentary films .

Works

In 2010, Philipp Majer shot his first short documentary, Vierviertel, a portrait of four people who live in the Nauwieser Viertel in Saarbrücken . The film portrays a cleaning lady, a record seller, a bartender ( Lee Hollis ) and a takeaway seller. In a short time, the film went viral.

Bunte Liga is another short documentary about a hobby soccer league and premiered in 2014 at the 11mm film festival in Berlin. The film accompanies the most diverse people who play in the league (from lawyers to taxi drivers to journalists).

In 2015, Philipp Majer and Zymryte Hoxhaj made the first longer film Smajl - the story of a Kosovar guest worker and his family. The film is about Ismajl "Smajl" Hoxhaj, who came to Germany as a guest worker in the 1970s only to buy a tape recorder and then return. But he stayed for 40 years, started a family and fought for Kosovo's independence as a political activist . The film was sponsored by Saarland Medien and broadcast on Saarland Radio . The film won the award for best documentary at the Jaipur International Film Festival and was shown at many other festivals including: Dokufest Prizren, Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis , Filmwinter Sarajevo, Ischia Film Festival, International Film Festival Quebec , Dokubazaar Slovenia and more.

The documentary film Wendelin worldwide shows places where Saint Wendelin was or is still present, and leads the viewer to Brazil, the USA, Eastern Europe and Italy. The film is a production by Carpe Diem Filmproduktion on behalf of Saarländischer Rundfunk and was released in 2017.

Die Kleinstadt is a documentary film from 2018, funded by the Kulturstiftung Rheinland-Pfalz. Pirmasens is a city left behind by globalization, which is attracting attention due to negative statistics and reports. But there are people who have chosen this city and they are portrayed in this film. The film was shown at several film festivals and won the Special Jury Award at the Germany International Film Festival in Munich .

World Taxi. is a documentary from 2019. This film accompanies five charismatic taxi drivers and their passengers from five different cities - Bangkok , Prishtina , Dakar , El Paso and Berlin - for 24 hours through their city, their everyday lives, their private lives and their thoughts . The German premiere took place at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival, the film was screened at various international film festivals and also won the award for best documentary at the South Texas International Film Festival 2019. The film is distributed by JIP-Film & Verleih throughout Germany It was released on June 11, 2020.
