The political-satirical cabaret Die Kneifzange was founded in 1953 as a teacher and student cabaret in Hennigsdorf near Berlin. Since 1955, under the direction of the writer Horst Heller, it has been active as part of the Erich Weinert Ensemble as a touring cabaret of the National People's Army . It was one of the four professional cabarets in the GDR. His main author and dramaturge was the later writer Karl-Heinz Tuschel from 1961 to 1976 , followed by Horst Heller, who was awarded the Theodor-Körner Prize in 1978 as the director and director of the pincers .

In 1990 the director Wolfgang Rumpf took over the management. The cabaret has recently played in a 100-seat theater in Berlin on Friedrichstrasse in the House of Russian Sciences and Culture . The cabaret ensemble includes the actors Madeleine Lierck-Wien , Vera Müller , Tom Deininger , Fabian Oscar Wien and Klaus Zeim. On October 26, 2011, the theater announced the end of the performance at the end of this month.
