Katy Mahoney works as a police officer on the patrol in Chicago . Like Dirty Harry, the young woman is not squeamish when using her weapon. Their overly harsh approach and their sometimes unconventional investigation methods lead to constant criticism from the police. She is covered by her direct superior, Lieutenant Terrence McNichols.

The series produced by MGM Television for ABC was canceled after 13 of the 16 episodes were broadcast. She competed against the series Cheers , Harry's Wondrous Criminal Court and Simon & Simon, which were broadcast at the same time , and could never prevail against them in the ratings . The series was also criticized for its excessive portrayals of violence.
