John Cacavas

John Cacavas (born August 13, 1930 in Aberdeen , South Dakota , † January 28, 2014 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American composer , arranger and conductor .

Life

Cacavas completed his music studies at Northwestern University and with the composer Robert Delaney . During this time he worked as an arranger and conductor in several music ensembles. After graduating, he served in the United States Army . He was the arranger of the renowned United States Army Band in Washington, DC . After his service he moved to New York City , where he worked at CBS as an assistant conductor to Alfredo Antonini and Morton Gould .

With his move to London in the early 1970s , Cacavas was able to establish himself as a film composer with music to horror express , Dracula needs fresh blood and giants in the sky . In addition to many television films, he gained greater fame, especially for the crime television series Kojak - Einsatz in Manhattan , for which he wrote 114 episodes from 1973 to 1978. He was nominated for an Emmy in 1976 for his music from the episode A Question of Answers .

Cacavas lived in both Beverly Hills and London with his wife Bonnie, a poet, social worker, and author. The couple had three children together.
