The Melchiors is a family series of the ARD . It describes the fate of the Lübeck merchant family Melchior during the heyday of the Hanseatic League in the 15th century . The broadcast took place in 1972 and 1973 in the regional evening program.
action
The head of the family and the successful trading company is Knut Melchior. He and his wife Svea have eight children. The two sons Eric and Richard often go on sometimes dangerous trade trips on behalf of their father to buy or sell goods. On one of his trips, Eric meets the pretty French woman Fabienne, who initially does not go down well with the parents, as does the daughter Agathe's inappropriate relationship with an authorized representative. The trading house has to assert itself against powerful competition and survive disputes with pirates and thieves. Thanks to his political skills, Knut Melchior succeeded in advancing within the hierarchy of the Hanseatic League. He negotiated successfully with the war opponent Denmark and eventually obtained the office of mayor. As such, he endeavors to return hijacked merchant ships and has to face the outbreak of the plague.
