Metabarons (OT: La Caste of Méta-Baron ) is a science fiction - comic series by Alejandro Jodorowsky (Author) and Juan Giménez (drawing) in eight volumes. The figure of the meta-baron appeared earlier in the John Difool series by Jodorowsky and Moebius . The volumes first appeared in French between 1992–2003. The German translation was published between 1996 and 2004.

As an additional work, La Maison des Ancêtres (German: Das Haus der Ancêtres ) was published in 2000 , a volume with background information on the Meta-Barons.

As a prequel to the history of the Metabarone, one volume each of the two-part Castaka drawn by Das Pastoras was released in 2007 and 2013 : Dayal: Le Premier Ancêtre (German: Dayal, the first ancestor , by Ehapa ) and Les Jumelles rivales (not as a single volume published in German, but in a complete edition by Splitter-Verlag). In 2008 the single volume Les armes du Méta-Baron (German: Die Waffen des Meta-Barons , 2009 by Splitter ) was published, illustrated by Travis Charest and Zoran Janjetov .

The main element of the series is the meta-baron, an ultimate, almost invincible warrior. The series includes four generations of metabarons. Each volume focuses on a figure giving the title from the Metabarone dynasty.

The figure of the meta-baron shows recurring patterns in behavior and character in the course of the plot. The new meta-baron is exposed to physical and psychological stress, including torture, by his predecessor. The aim of this abuse is to create a fighter who no longer has any sense of suffering. As a result of this socialization, the protagonist suffers from loneliness and depression. The author draws a character with an ambivalent personality - while the meta-baron is almost perfect as a warrior, his human inadequacy leads to a status of constant dissatisfaction.
