occupation

Die Perle is a German silent film fun play from 1914 by Max Mack with Hedda Vernon in the leading role.

action

An elderly gentleman from the provinces of so-called “better circles” comes to Berlin to sniff a little big city air and enjoy some amusement. This also includes a visit to the Komödienhaus, where the actors and the play seem to interest him far less than a pretty, young lady in the theater box opposite. When the girl leaves the theater, he follows her and ends up in a ballroom. You get closer and celebrate a little with champagne and peach melba. "These two foods are the terrible causes of all kinds of laughing-muscle-nervous effects." Finally, there are various mix-ups, "which cause great happiness."

Production notes

The pearl was created at the turn of the year 1913/14 in the Vitascope studio in Berlin-Weißensee , passed film censorship in February 1914 and was premiered on March 12, 1914 in the UT Kurfürstendamm. The film had three or four acts, depending on the source.

criticism

"Hedda Vernon, Paulmüller and Fritz Spira do their part to bring the humor of the film, skilfully staged by Max Mack, to its best effect."
