The presence is a German found footage - horror film by Daniele Grieco . The film was financed by guerrilla marketing via Facebook and Grieco decided to promote a release on a self-financed film tour through Germany at the end of 2014, as no distribution could be found. On March 12, 2015, the film was finally shown in cinemas nationwide.

action

Markus, student of anthropology , is interested in popular myths, superstitions and the phenomenon of poltergeists through a seminar. When his friend Lukas tells him about an old castle where ghosts are said to have triggered a gruesome family tragedy, they quickly decide to spend a few days there. They hope to record or disprove the existence of the spirits. The two are also accompanied by Markus' friend Rebecca, who will be inaugurated shortly before arrival at the castle. Although she is critical of the two’s plans, she sticks to it for the thrill of unauthorized entry. At first nothing unusual happens, but after strange noises the events roll over. A little later, two of them are dead.

criticism

The film service judges that the film “tries to cite the many role models effectively, but as a (German) genre representative it comes years too late to be sustainable and original”. The film website kino.de thinks the film is an “atmospheric, dense horror trip [...] based on the tried and tested patterns of found footage films”. It goes on to say that the presence is “a well-made and equally played contribution” to a traditional genre that has been “neglected in Germany”. The “solid concatenation of escalating creepy events” goes hand in hand with “creeping horrors in atmospheric packaging”.

Location

The medieval moated castle Veynau in the Euskirchen district of Wißkirchen served as the filming location for the castle complex, portrayed in the film as the fictitious "Burg Hohnau" .
