In a secret military experiment, a group of women soldiers led by Kristen Radford is to be teleported from California to Stuttgart . The leader of the experiment is Joseph Harnet. The attempt fails, however, and the team finds themselves in an unknown landscape, contact with Harnet is broken off. The soldiers just manage to make a short radio message when they are attacked by a Tyrannosaurus Rex . Some of the women and all radio equipment except for a few walkie-talkies fell victim to the dinosaur.

Using the short radio signal, Harnet's team is able to locate the group's whereabouts; they find that they have been teleported 600 kilometers below the surface of the earth. Harnet turns to his ex-wife, Emily Radford, who works on a manned auger, for help. When she learns that her sister Kristen is among the missing, she agrees to the rescue mission. Harnet and Emily start the drill and begin moving through the earth's mantle in the direction of the located signal.

Meanwhile, the remaining soldiers Kristen, Betsy, Gretchen and Victoria flee from various prehistoric monsters, and they are attacked by poisonous plants while searching for drinking water. When they have found a place to camp, Victoria takes the first watch, where she is attacked by a giant spider and abducted. The other three are awakened by the screams and go into pursuit. They discover a nest of giant spiders, and they manage to free Victoria and kill some of the monsters.

The auger with Emily and Harnet on board, after some difficulties, reached almost 600 kilometers when they managed to contact the walkie-talkies of the group around Kristen. They agree on a large volcano as a meeting point. Emily and Harriet plan in the Magma flow to reach the volcano to survive the impact of the drill. This succeeds, but they are attacked by huge worms in the magma, which they can escape at the last second. Emily and Harnet rush towards the four soldiers who are being chased by the giant spiders. Victoria dies when it becomes clear that the spiders have used them as host animals for their offspring. The remaining ones can beam back to the California research station.

At the end of the film, a juvenile giant spider crawls out of one of the pieces of equipment teleported back with the survivors.

The trip to the center of the earth 2 received mostly negative reviews. This is what Cinema calls the film "Fantasytrash from the Asylum Madhouse" and judges: "If you hear a humming noise while playing the film - this is Jules Verne rotating in his grave," but the film seems quite inspiring to fans of The Asylum. Tobias Hohmann from schongetested.de awards three out of ten possible points, criticizes the "obvious shortcomings in directing and acting talent" and certifies that the film has a "measly set" and a "banal story". He comes to the conclusion: "Had trash potential, but does not call it up."
