Die Schildgenossen was a Catholic magazine that appeared from 1920 to 1941. It was founded by members of the Quickborn Youth Association under the leadership of Romano Guardini and was considered an organ of the Catholic youth movement , but also the mouthpiece of the Catholic cultural movement.

history

The shield comrades appeared for the first time in " Gilbhart 1920" as sheets of the Großquickborner and Hochländer under the editor Rolf Ammann . The subtitle changed from “ Hartung 1922” in the magazine of the Älterenbund in Quickborn . At Easter 1923 the editor changed to Josef Außenem , the subtitle changed with the next issue in the magazine of the older Quickborner . From " Lenzing in 1924" were the Schildgenossen of Romano Guardini and Joseph Außem as a journal of Catholic life movementpublished. In 1925 the editor changed from outside to Ludwig Neundörfer , in 1927 Rudolf Schwarz , 1929 Helene Helming , 1931 Heinrich Kahlefeld joined the group of editors.

In addition to numerous contributions by Guardini himself, authors such as Hermann Platz , Felix Messerschmid , Georg Volk , Robert Steidle and Ida Friederike Görres contributed. The magazine also had a debate and forum character. For example, the debate between Max Bondy and Guardini about the relationship between authority and freedom in the youth movement became known. In addition to the authors closely related to Quickborn, personalities as diverse as Ernst Michel , Peter Wust , Waldemar Gurian and Carl Schmitt had their say. Most of these contributions were preceded by work weeks or conferences at Rothenfels Castle .

In 1941 the publication of the magazine “aus Papiermangel” was stopped after the third issue.
