Tom Amstutz

Tom Amstutz (* 1953 / 1954 ; Nickname : Toledo Tom ) is a US American football trainer. He was head coach of the Toledo Rockets in college football for eight years . Since June 2017 he has been the national coach of the US American football team.

Coaching career

Amstutz began his career in 1978 as a coach of offensive tackles and tight ends with the Toledo Rockets . He later moved to the defensive line . In 1987 he moved to the Navy, but returned to Toledo in 1990 under the new head coach Nick Saban . In 1994 he was appointed Defensive Coordinator under Head Coach Gary Pinkel . On December 12, 2000, he was named Head Coach and won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in his first season . A year later he won the Western Division with the Rockets, a success that he repeated the following year. In November 2005 he extended his contract until 2009. In the same year he won the MAC again. On November 3, 2008, he announced that he would step down as head coach after the end of the year.

In June 2017, Amstutz was appointed head coach of the US national team.

Personal

Amstutz has been a certified agent of the National Football League Players Association since 2014 . In 2015 he was inducted into the UT Athletics Hall of Fame .
