The city is a German Independent - Label in Bremen with a focus on experimental music. The label was founded in 1995 by Jochen Schwarz.

Style direction

The decisive factor for the company name was Schwarz's fascination with the multi-layered everyday noises that come to light in the cultural development of city life. This is reflected in the music selection of this label, in which noise music plays a prominent role. The city regularly publishes music in collaboration with other, mostly similar labels, in addition to Walter Ulbricht Schallfolien , Janet Records, Robot Records and Siren Records are to be mentioned.

Act

The first publication was the 10 " Who Sees Goes On - Timerape" by The Hafler Trio in collaboration with the Hamburg label Walter Ulbricht Schallfolien. In the following years other, mostly active representatives of experimental music based on noises and manipulated sounds (drone, Ambient , sound collages ), of which new and out-of-print material has been made available. Elaborate and individually designed special editions are regularly published in corresponding limitations. The most famous artists on Die Stadt include Asmus Tietchens , William Basinski , David Jackman alias Organum, John Duncan , Carl Michael von Hausswolff , Andrew Liles , Richard H. Kirk ( Cabaret Voltaire ), Thomas Köner , Illusion of Safety and Aidan Baker ( Nadja ).
