Richard H. Kirk (born March 21, 1956 in Sheffield , Yorkshire , † September 21, 2021 ) was a British musician , composer and record producer . He became known as a member of the influential industrial band Cabaret Voltaire . He remained active as a solo artist from the 1980s until his death.

Life

Kirk first studied art at Sheffield Art College .

From 1973 he appeared as a member of the industrial band Cabaret Voltaire .

His first solo album Disposable Half-Truths was released in 1980. Until the band split up in 1994, he pursued his solo activities in parallel and published not only danceable techno productions, but also experimental electronic music and ambient . The publications appeared under his real name and a variety of pseudonyms , of which Electronic Eye and Sandoz are among the best known. Together with Richard Barratt (DJ Parrot) he founded the project Sweet Exorcist , which became known through early bleep techno releases on Warp Records .

Since 2001, Kirk has been releasing mainly on his own Intone label . In his more recent publications he drew on influences from traditional African music .

Kirk expressly ruled out a reunion of Cabaret Voltaire . He died in September 2021 at the age of 65.
