The Tango Queen is an operetta in three acts by the composer Franz Lehár . The libretto is by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grünwald . The first performance took place on September 9, 1921 in the Apollo Theater in Vienna .

The work is the second revision of Lehár's operetta Der Göttergatte . This was based on Kleist's Amphitryon and played accordingly in antiquity . The first new version came out in 1913 under the title The ideal wife . Both new versions take place at the time they were written, i.e. around 1913 and around 1921, in the Spanish seaside resort of San Sebastian . With a few exceptions, the same people act in the Ideal Wife and the Tango Queen , only a few musical numbers have been deleted and replaced by new ones. Some numbers have also been retained and are included in both the Ideal Wife and the Tango Queen . The piano reductions of both works can be found under web links.
