The focus of the approximately 25-minute episodes is the Trotsky family from Leipzig , who have to deal with the changes following German unification . The head of the family, Herbert Trotsky, knows everything better, is in his mid-fifties, a taxi driver and, like his son Benno, a VfB Leipzig fan. His wife Rosa is an unemployed kindergarten teacher. She ensures the cohesion of the family and lives in a constant dispute with her husband, also because of his constant lamenting about politics. She and her daughter Margot share a love for all the blessings of the West. Margot is in her mid-twenties, works at the reception of a leading Leipzig hotel and is looking for the man of her dreams. Her fat brother Benno is in his early 20s and second chairman of the Nordkurve fan club. Because of his slowness, he is Margot's favorite victim for verbal attacks.
