The German script

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German writing is a since 1927 association journal of the federal government for German writing and language .

history

The previous paper, which appeared from 1918 to 1926, was called "Bundes-Nachrichten". Due to the dissolution of the association in 1941, the magazine was discontinued with the December 1940 issue, which was already ready for dispatch but could no longer be dispatched. Since the Bund was re-established in 1951, the magazine was able to be reissued in 1952 under its old name. The new counting of the issues begins, however, with the "Mitteilungen" of October 1951 as issue 1 new count. In the years 1979 to 1983, newsletters were enclosed with the booklet.

The Federation for German Writing and Language makes the booklets in its archive available on CD-ROM. The issues before 1921, ie issues 1 to 10 of the “Bundes-Nachrichten” are recorded as war losses and have not yet been procured. The federal government itself asks people who still have individual issues to make them available to the federal government.

The issues from 1927 to March 1937 were in A5 format, from July 1937 to 1940 A4 was used. In the years from 1952 to 1982 they returned to A5. From 1982 to 2013 “The German Script” appeared in B5. Since issue 3/2010 (No. 175) there has been a four-color picture supplement twice a year. The booklets have been published in A4 in four colors since 2014.

From 1929 to 1931, a four-page art print supplement was added to the booklet.

Subject areas

The main topics tackled are: German language , language usage, language history, fracture fonts ( Gothic , Schwabacher and Fraktur ), German cursive ( Kurrent , Sütterlin ), typography , printing technology , spelling reform and club life.

In addition, there are always articles on topics that only touch on the main topics mentioned, such as ink production , writing implements or sealing knowledge .

In every issue there is a page with the topic “Broken Scripts as Eye-Catchers”, where you can find photos of building inscriptions, shop windows or gravestones on which Fraktur or German cursive was used. Each picture is explained in a short comment. Often wrongly placed inscriptions are presented, the errors of which are then pointed out and corrected there.

The journal contains literature supplements several times a year.

Appear

The magazine is published quarterly, usually in late March, June, September and December. Like all publications of this covenant, the booklets are printed in broken scripts and in the old spelling. If possible, different fonts are used for each episode of the booklet.
