Dieter Büttner

Dieter Wolfgang Büttner (born February 24, 1949 in Celle ) is a former German athlete and Olympic participant.

Büttner started for SV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . With a height of 1.91 m, his competition weight was 80 kg.

In 1971 he was German champion in the 400-meter hurdles with 49.76 seconds . At the European Championships in 1971 , he narrowly missed the podium with 50.09 seconds and finished fourth. In 1972 he set his personal best as the German champion with 49.21 seconds in the Munich Olympic Stadium . A month later, at the Olympic Games , he fell over the East German participant Christian Rudolph , who had torn an Achilles tendon immediately before .

At the end of his athletics career, Dieter Büttner was a teacher at the Franken-Gymnasium Zülpich and taught sport, geography and Protestant religion. At the beginning of 2012, he retired from all offices and teaching activities. Today he lives in the Eifel.
