Dieter Baacke Prize

With the Dieter Baacke Prize , the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK), together with the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), honors exemplary projects nationwide that have emerged in educational, social and cultural work.

Emergence

Dieter Baacke established a pedagogical media competence term that includes creative, critical, social and structural aspects. This concept forms the basis of the Dieter Baacke Prize, with which exemplary media projects with children, young people and families throughout Germany are awarded. The Dieter Baacke Prize is awarded jointly by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK).

The focus is not only on the product, but also on the media educational process. The award goes to innovative, original, courageous and far-reaching projects that have contributed to the promotion of pedagogically oriented media skills. This can be, for example, a multimedia project in a youth center, a children's radio project, the establishment of media-pedagogical parent-child activities in the preschool area or an extraordinary film or video project.

Conditions of participation

Institutions, initiatives or individuals can apply. The projects should have been implemented in the year of the call or in the previous year. The application deadline is July 31st.

Categories

The Dieter Baacke Prize is awarded in six categories:

  1. Projects by and with children
  2. Projects by and with young people
  3. Intercultural and international projects - e.g. B. cross-border media projects or projects that promote intercultural exchange or take into account the situation of children, young people, families with a migration background or promote their political participation
  4. Intergenerational and integrative projects - e.g. B. media pedagogical cooperation, exchange between generations, family-oriented media work
  5. Projects with a special network character - e.g. B. exemplary, innovative media pedagogical cooperation of various institutions, sponsors or individuals involved in media pedagogy
  6. Special prize (topic changes every year: 2017: media criticism - filter bubble, hate speech and fake news)

Prices

Each of the six categories is endowed with prize money of 2,000 euros each . The award ceremony takes place during a ceremony on the fringes of the GMK Communication Culture Forum. The cup was created by Baacke's adopted son Ippazio Fracasso-Baacke .
