Dieter Hofmann (Designer)

Dieter Hofmann (* 1960 in Fürth ) is a German system designer , product designer and university professor . Since October 2014 he has been rector of the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle .

Life

Dieter Hofmann completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman , then studied mechanical engineering at the Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences and capital goods design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . In 1996 and 1997, he was a visiting professor at the International Design School of Advanced Studies in Seoul , Korea. From 1997 to 1999 he worked as an artistic assistant at the State Academy for Fine Arts in Stuttgart . During a five-year stay in Japan, he worked from 1999 to 2001 as a visiting professor at the Japanese National University of Tsukuba . Since 2003 he has held the professorship for industrial design / product and system design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art in Halle .

In 2014 the Academic Senate elected him rector and confirmed him in 2018 with his re-election. As part of this task, Dieter Hofmann sees a focus on expanding the internationalization of the BURG conceptually, cultivating the castle's special university culture and implementing the planned new construction of the art campus.

In addition, Dieter Hofmann was Japan correspondent for the online magazine form from 2000 to 2002 . In 2000 he founded the eDesign office, with which he advises companies on intercultural issues and designs capital goods , products and systems in the areas of mobility, public communication, machine tools, medical and laboratory technology, household and personal care. Dieter Hofmann is the founding founder of the SYN Foundation for Art Design Science and was on its board from 2009 to 2014. For industrial design and research projects at home and abroad, he worked with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization IAO and the Institute for Kansei Engineering and Industrial Design, Tsukuba , Japan.
