from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich II. Eduard Graf zu Leiningen-Westerburg-Altleiningen (born May 20, 1806 in Altleiningen , † June 5, 1868 in Darmstadt , Hessen-Darmstadt ) was a German count from the noble family of Leiningen , a civil registry lord and member of parliament.

Life

Friedrich II zu Leiningen-Westerburg-Altleiningen was the son of Count Friedrich I zu Leiningen-Westerburg-Altleiningen (1761–1839) and his wife Eleonore Maria Magdalena Breitwieser (1781–1841) from Assenheim (1816 Grand Ducal Hessian nobility as " Frau von Brettwitz "), the daughter of Johann Heinrich Breitwieser. Three sons and three daughters were born in wedlock, two sons were legitimized by marriage.

After the death of his father Friedrich I. zu Leiningen-Westerburg-Altleiningen ruling count. The holdings of the Counts of Leiningen-Westerburg-Altleiningen and Leiningen-Westerburg-Neuleiningen on the left bank of the Rhine were incorporated into the French state in the wake of the French Revolution in 1793, and the two Counts of Altleiningen and Neuleiningen were temporarily imprisoned in Paris. They were compensated in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 with the former abbeys of Ilbenstadt and Engelthal in the Wetterau . In 1806 their estates were incorporated into the Grand Duchies of Berg and Hessen-Darmstadt and the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg and Nassau-Usingen .

However, as noblemen, the counts retained a number of privileges, including a hereditary mandate in the first chamber of the estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . With the death of his father in 1839, Friedrich II became a registrar. He was therefore formally a member of the first chamber in 1839 until his death in 1868, but never formally joined it. His younger brother Viktor zu Leiningen-Westerburg-Altleiningen (1821-1880) took over the job of the landlord. Another brother Karl August (1819–1849) died on the gallows as a Hungarian freedom fighter.
