Philipp Losch

Philipp Losch (born November 6, 1869 in Kassel , † November 25, 1953 in Falkenberg near Wabern ) was a German historian , journalist and librarian .

Life

Losch's father was the brewery owner Johann Losch, his mother Sophie Schmidt. After attending the Friedrichsgymnasium in Kassel, he studied history and German philology in Munich , Berlin and Marburg, among others . In 1895 he received his doctorate in Marburg. He then worked at the university libraries in Greifswald , Göttingen , Marburg and Halle . In 1906 he came to the Royal Library in Berlin , where he initially worked in the music department under Wilhelm Altmann . In 1914 he was appointed professor and from 1915 he went to the real catalog of the Berlin State Library as a consultant for German history . He was appointed senior librarian in 1919.

Losch dealt primarily with the history of the state of Hesse between 1750 and 1870. In 1933 he wrote The Soldiers' Trade , and in 1937 The Last German Elector Friedrich Wilhelm I of Hesse appeared .

Losch was the author of more than 600 historical articles and published numerous history books.
