Dieter Hooge

Dieter Hooge (born November 26, 1943 in Ostbevern ) is a German trade unionist and politician of the Die Linke party .

Life

Trade unionists

In 1957, Hooge began an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at Windmöller & Hölscher in Lengerich / Westf. He joined IG Metall in 1959. In 1966/67, Hooge attended the Academy of Labor in Frankfurt. From 1967 to 1969 he was an employee of the DGB Federal School Bad Kreuznach. He then became a youth education officer at the DGB Hessen. From 1972 to 1978, Hooge was state youth secretary at the DGB Hessen. He then worked as a consultant for adult education at the DGB-Bildungswerk Hessen. 1981–1983 he was regional manager of the GEW , from 1983 to 1991 secretary of the ÖTV in Frankfurt am Main and from 1991 to 1995 chairman of the DGB in Frankfurt / Main.

From 1995 to 2002 he was state chairman of the DGB Hessen.

Politician

Dieter Hooge was delegated in 1999 by the Hessian SPD as a member of the 11th Federal Assembly to elect the Federal President.

In 2010 the Left in Hesse delegated him again to the Federal Assembly.

In the spring of 2004 he was involved in the founding of the “Work and Social Justice Initiative” in Hesse, which later became the WASG . In June 2004 he resigned from the SPD after 40 years of membership. In July 2004 he was a founding member of the WASG association at the federal level in Berlin. Until the merger with the Left Party and the PDS, Hooge was a member of the executive board of the WASG Hessen. Then for a few years member of the state board of the Left in Hesse. In the state elections in 2008 and 2009 , he ran in the constituency of Frankfurt am Main IV , where he received 5.3% (2008) and 5.6% (2009) of the first votes.

Since 2013 he has been a member of the Left Council of Elders, chaired by the honorary chairman of the Left, Hans Modrow.
