Dieter Schubert (born May 1, 1951 ) was a football player in the GDR upper league . There he played for the company sports association (BSG) of the Zwickau car factory Sachsenring Zwickau . With this team, he won the GDR soccer cup in 1975 .

Schubert's short career in the GDR league began with the game Wismut Aue - BSG Sachsenring Zwickau (1: 1) on April 14, 1973. The almost 23-year-old came in the match on the 16th match day of the 1972/73 season, in the three regular players had to be replaced as left defenders (according to football week, right midfielder according to German sports echo) in the team. During this season Schubert was used again on the 20th match day in the major league, this time as a right attacker. Even in the first half of the 1973/74 season he did not get beyond the role of a reserve player and was only used four times. Only when Peter Henschel and Dieter Leuschner were out for a long time in the second half of the season did Schubert regularly play from the 18th to the 26th and last day of the season and usually played in the defensive row. During the 1974/75 season he fell back into the role of substitute player and completed only six of the 26 Bundesliga point games played.

In 1975, Sachsenring reached the final of the GDR soccer cup for the fourth time in its history. In the previous seven cup games, Schubert was only used once in the second leg of the quarter-finals at Vorwärts Stralsund (4-2 victory) as a left defender. In the final against Dynamo Dresden, Schubert was initially on the reserve bench, but was substituted on for midfielder Peter Henschel in the 74th minute. After a 4-3 win on penalties, the Zwickau team surprisingly won the FDGB Cup for the third time as an outsider. For Schubert it was the greatest success of his career as a football player. In the following games of Zwickau in the European Cup , Schubert was not used.

In the next few years, too, Schubert had to be content with the role of reservist. In the seasons from 1975/76 to 1977/78 he completed only five games in the major league. He played his last league game on March 4, 1978. In the match between Sachsenring and Wismut Aue (16th matchday, 0-0), he was substituted on for midfielder Hans-Uwe Pilz in the 76th minute . This ended after 26 missions without a goal Schubert's career in the GDR league.
