Ricardo Sáenz de Ynestrillas Martínez

Ricardo Sáenz de Ynestrillas Martínez (born April 9, 1935 in Madrid ; † June 17, 1986 ibid) was last comandante ( major ) in the Spanish army .

He served 5 years with the X. Bandera of the Spanish Legion in the Sahara , first in the Montaña de Barbastro battalion (Huesca), later in the Paracaidista brigade. Then he was a lecturer at the Academia General de Policía Armada (General Academy of the Armed Police).

Sáenz de Ynestrillas was involved in planning a coup called Operación Galaxia . To this end, he met Antonio Tejero Molina and other military personnel on November 17, 1978 in the Cafe Galaxia in Madrid . In May 1980 he was sentenced to six months and one day in prison. As a result of the 23 F putsch, he was arrested again in 1981 and released on June 23.

Sáenz de Ynestrillas was killed in an attack by the Basque underground organization ETA on June 17, 1986 in Madrid when his car was in front of the Jefatura de Personal de la Capitanía General de la I. Región Militar (Personnel Administration of the Captain General of the Military District I) of Iñaki de Juana Chaos and other ETA members was shot at. Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Besteiro Pérez and soldier Francisco Casillas Martín were also killed in the attack.

Sáenz de Ynestrillas had three sons - Ricardo , Martín and Jesús Sáenz de Ynestrillas Pérez. All three were active in the right-wing extremist scene, at least in their youth. Ricardo continues to hold offices in small national syndicalist parties.
