Dieter Steinhöfer is a German sports scientist and former basketball player .

career

Athletic career

Between 1957 and 1966, Steinhöfer was part of the SSV Hagen men's team . With the Hagen team he was among other things German runner-up. Later he was the coach of TSV Hagen.

In addition, Steinhöfer also ran athletics at the performance level.

Scientific career

He studied German language and literature and sport for the teaching profession and, after graduating, taught as a study assessor and teacher at grammar schools, including the Fichte grammar school in Hagen . From 1970 he played a key role in setting up the training science department at the Faculty of Sports Science at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After completing his doctorate and habilitation in the sports science sub-area of ​​training science, he took up a professorship at the Ruhr University and remained in this position until 2002.

Together with Hubert Remmert, Steinhöfer published the textbook “Basketball in der Schule”, which has been published in several editions, which describes ways of teaching the sport game and, according to the author, is aimed at teachers, trainers, students and club players. In 1983 he published the book “On performance recording in basketball” in the series “Sportwissenschaft und Sportpraxis”. In 2003 Steinhöfer's book “Athletiktraining im Sportspiel” appeared, which was later reprinted.
