Athletic career

When the company sports association (BSG) Motor Jena went into their second GDR league season in the summer of 1951 , the 22-year-old Dieter Streller was part of the squad for the first time. Streller, who had not previously been active in East German higher-class football, had his first appearance in the second-rate GDR league in the fourth league game in Jena. He was called up as a center forward and scored his first goal for the Jena team in the 6-2 victory over HSG Wissenschaft Halle with the goal to meanwhile 5-0 . By the end of the season, which ended the BSG Motor as a climber in the GDR Oberliga, Streller had been used in a total of fifteen league games and had become the second top scorer in his team with thirteen goals. In the league season 1952/53 Streller was first called up as a striker in the first seven point games, followed by two substitutions and two more missions as a midfielder in the second half of the season. After these eleven games, in which Streller also failed to score, his time at BSG Motor Jena was over and he did not appear in higher-class football afterwards.
