Diethard Finkelmann

Diethard Finkelmann (born July 15, 1941 in Potsdam ) is a former German handball player . In 1966 he became world champion in field handball with the German team.

Finkelmann first played for Reinickendorfer Füchsen Berlin , after their relegation in 1971 he was signed by Hamburger SV . After a year he returned to the Reinickendorfer Füchsen before the Olympic Games.

The 1.86 meter tall Finkelmann was in the squad of the German national handball team at the men's field handball championship in 1966 (world champion), the indoor handball world championship in 1970 (5th place) and the 1972 Olympic Games (6th place). At the Olympics, he scored one goal in five games. In total, Finkelmann played in 68 international matches, in which he scored 50 goals, of which 13 international matches and three goals were played by the national field handball team.

From 1981 to 1986 he was a functionary in the club, at the same time he became a sports teacher .

For winning the 1966 World Cup, Finkelmann was honored with the silver laurel leaf . In October 2013 Diethard Finkelmann was accepted into the "Legendengalerie" of the Füchse Berlin .
