Diether Röth

Diether Röth (born November 20, 1923 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ) is a German publisher and fairy tale researcher .

Life

Röth studied German language and literature , art history and folklore at the University of Göttingen and was there at times a research assistant at the "Lower Saxony Dictionary". In 1959 he received his doctorate with a thesis on topos research initiated by Ernst Robert Curtius .

In 1955 he took over the management of the branch of the Erich-Röth-Verlag, located in Eisenach (then GDR ) in Kassel, and became the owner in 1971 after the death of his father. He continued the series The Face of the Nations, begun in 1928 by Erich Röth and taken up again in 1949, with folk poetry texts from all five continents published for the first time with specialist knowledge and the subtitle "Documentation of the fairy tale" (47 volumes and over 1000 first publications). He has commented on 22 of these volumes in a fairytale way and is based on the international catalog (AT).

Since 1961 the series "Feenmäre" of the Bernese Sinwel-Verlag (from 1964 in Bern and Kassel) and from 1962–1990 that of the Budapest Corvina-Verlag for the entire Federal Republic and German-speaking Switzerland took place. Since 1979 Diether Röth has been the publisher of the “European Fairy Tale Society (EMG)” based in Rheine and editor of its “Publications (VEMG)”. Since 1976 there have been co-productions of the fairy tale editions of Gustav Kiepenheuer-Verlag Weimar as “The Orient Books”.
