Diether von Wedel

Horst Diether von Zittwitz, called von Wedel (born January 2, 1910 in Berlin ; † October 27, 1983 in Bad Homburg in front of the height ) was personal adjutant of the German Reich Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda Joseph Goebbels .

Life

In 1916 he became the adoptive son of the Prussian major a. D. Detlev von Wedel (1862–1926) at Althof . By the very highest cabinet order of July 18, 1918, the Prussian name and coat of arms association of Zittwitz, called von Wedel, took place . The coat of arms specially awarded to him was emblazoned as follows :

From S. u. Schw. Sp., Therein a g.-bew. r.-den. Double-headed eagle used Color, bel. as heart shield with von Wedel's shield; 2 kr. H.

In 1929 Diether von Wedel joined the NSDAP . He was a councilor in Königsberg. In 1934 he switched to the service of the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda in Berlin and, as the successor to Friedrich Christian zu Schaumburg-Lippe, became Goebbels' personal adjutant. This gave him permanent access to one of the most powerful politicians in the German Reich.

In 1942 Diether von Wedel was referred to as a farmer, senior leader and personal assistant to the Gauleiter in East Prussia . Erich Koch was Gauleiter of East Prussia at the time.

His adoptive mother Gertrud von Wedel, b. von Voss (1875–1947), was the last owner of the manor Althof near Friedland, Bartenstein district . After the Second World War he lived in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and called himself the last man on Gut Althof near Wehlau.
