Dietmar Placzek (* 17th May 1951 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German civil engineer for geotechnical engineering .

biography

Placzek grew up in Gelsenkirchen, attended grammar school there and, after graduating from high school and completing military service, studied structural engineering at the Ruhr University in Bochum ; In 1976 he obtained his diploma. In 1976, while still studying, he worked in the Essen Earthworks Laboratory (ELE). In 1977 he moved to the Institute for Foundation Engineering and Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Tunneling at the University of Essen under the direction of Helmut Nendza, where he obtained his doctorate in 1982 on the subject of the shrinkage behavior of cohesive soils during drying under natural boundary conditions . His dissertation arose from the scientific processing of numerous cases of damage in mining areas that could not be attributed to mining. From 1983 he was initially a department head and from 1994 partner and managing director of ELE Beratende Ingenieure GmbH in Essen.

Since 1996 he has been a state-approved expert for earthworks and foundations and an expert for construction work in railway construction, specializing in geotechnical engineering. This was followed by public orders and swearing-in as an expert for soil mechanics , earthworks and foundation engineering , foundation damage (1998, IHK Essen) and as an expert for mining effects on the surface. Since 2000 he has been an honorary professor at the University of Essen.

Since the late 1970s, Placzek has been involved in investigations into mountain damage and pseudo- mountain damage as well as the development of necessary safety measures. Further scientific work concerns the lowering of the groundwater level and the associated lowering of the ground surface, the load-bearing behavior of different piles and possibilities for increasing the pile load-bearing capacity, as well as the calculation and dimensioning of large, circular and horizontally unsupported excavation walls and the interaction between the structure and the subsoil in large-area foundations. In addition, he deals with geotechnical questions of tunnel construction with regard to stability and the risks associated with the building site.

As a consulting engineer, he and his engineering office helped establish power plants and new DB routes, e.g. B. Cologne-Rhine / Main, underground and light rail tunnels, z. B. Cologne, Düsseldorf, Berlin, and the parliament buildings in Bonn.

Since 1985 he has been a member of the working group on piles of the German Society for Geotechnics (DGGT), of which he has been a board member since 2002 and since 2002 in the German Committee for Underground Construction .
