Dietmar W. Winkler

Dietmar Werner Winkler (born April 15, 1963 in Wolfsberg in Carinthia) is an Austrian church historian , ecumenist and theologian .

Life

He studied specialist theology, German philology, ancient history and religious education in Graz, Geneva and Innsbruck, where he received the title in 1989 Mag. Phil., 1991 Mag. Theol. and 1995 Dr. theol. acquired. In 2000, with an APART grant from the Austrian Academy of Sciences, habilitation in Patrology, History of Dogma and Ecumenical Theology at the University of Graz . From 1991 to 2000 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Liturgical Studies, Christian Art and Hymnology. As a visiting scholar at Mahatma Gandhi University , he obtained the Diploma in Syriac Language in Kottayam in 1998 . Teaching at the Universities of Graz and Salzburg. 2001 Fulbright Scholar, St. John's University (Minnesota, USA). At Boston University , he was from 2003 to 2005 Professor and Associate Director of the Division of Religious and Theological Studies. In 2005 he was appointed professor for patristics and church history in Salzburg. 2012 visiting researcher at the Center for the Study of World Religions, Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) and in 2018 at the "Center Paul-Albert-Février - Textes et Documents de la Méditerrané antique et médiéval" (CPAF) at the Université Aix-Marseille.

Dietmar W. Winkler is an internationally recognized expert on Oriental Christianity and its ecumenical relationships. His work focuses on the cultural history and present of the Eastern Churches, oriental patristics and historical theology. He is a consultor in the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity , collaborator on work projects of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches and member of the board of the Pro Oriente Foundation .
