Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chapel (Hall)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chapel is on the grounds of the Martha Maria Dölau Hospital in the north-west of Halle (Saale) . The chapel was built in 2000 as a modern rotunda. It is located to the left of the main entrance of the hospital building and is connected to it via a glass corridor.

A semicircular room, attached to the east and clad with translucent metal panels, is connected to the chapel by sliding doors so that the rooms can also be used as a conference center.

The altar wall on the west side was designed by the painter and former professor and rector of Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle Ludwig Ehrler (1939–2014). It was carried out by the designers Olaf Riedel and Ulrich Hörandel. Similar to a puzzle, 1,260 small crosses made of different materials and colors come together to form several large crosses. The altar table, ambo and candlestick stand are designed in a similar way.

Protestant and Catholic services are held in the chapel.
