Dietrich Ebbracht

Dietrich Ebbracht (lat. Theodorius) (* 1395 in Warburg ; † 1462 in Mainz ) was a canon and scholastic and a leading protonotary and church politician under Emperor Siegmund .

He was the son of Hermann and Elisabeth († 1446) Ebbracht, a citizen of the city of Warburg . He enjoyed a solid legal education. He became a canon and around 1414, at the time of the Council of Constance , protonotary in the court chancellery of Emperor Siegmund (1410–1438). He took part in the Basel Council (1431-1448). In addition to the Lübeck bishop Johannes Schele , he was a leading specialist in church politics and its reform problems. As a confidante of the emperor, he maintained connections with the Basel Council. During this time he was an influential and powerful politician. He also had close contacts with the Archbishop of Mainz, Dietrich Schenk von Erbach .

He directed the election of King Albrecht II in 1438 and was promoted by him. After his death he retired to Mainz, where he was buried. He belonged to the group of people who, alongside Nikolaus von Kues and Enea Silvio Piccolomini (later Pope Pius II ), made the steepest careers.
