Dietrich Moritz Petri (born January 21, 1782 in Lemgo ; † November 9, 1863 ibid) was a member of the Lippe state parliament and mayor of Lemgo.

Life

Moritz Petri was born as the seventh child of the married couple Franz Karl Theodor Petri and Anna Elisabeth Benzler. He was the younger brother of the later district president of Detmold, Friedrich Simon Leopold Petri . His father Franz Karl Theodor Petri was the city secretary in Lemgo from 1774, his mother Anna Elisabeth Benzler daughter of the mayor Johann Anton Benzler.

Moritz Petri visited the Lemgoer school and studied in Göttingen Jura . In 1805 he became an auditor in the Brake Office and from 1807 a syndic in Lage . In 1813, Princess Pauline appointed him city ​​judge in Lemgo. From 1821 to 1857 or 1858 Petri was the first mayor of the city of Lemgo. Together with the second mayor of Lemgos, August Wilhelm Ernst , Petri sat in the Lippe state parliament from 1836 .

Petri had been married to Charlotte Elisabeth Clemen (1789-1826), a sister of the Lemgo pastor Hermann Friedrich Ferdinand Clemen, since 1809. The marriage produced four children, two of whom died in childhood. In his second marriage, Petri was married to Sophie Henriette Schnittger, widow of the forest inspector Heinrich Pothmann. In addition to a stepdaughter, he had six other children with her, three of whom died early.
