Lippe Landtag from 1836
The state parliament of 1836 in Lippe was the last assembly of the estates of the Principality of Lippe according to the old law, which still came from the HRR . It was the first state parliament to be convened since the end of the state parliament on October 26, 1805. In the state capital Detmold , the representatives of all five cities eligible for state parliament and a large part of the nobility eligible for state parliament were present. The main subject of the state parliament was the approval of the constitution (the state constitution).
background
When the Principality of Lippe joined the Rhine Confederation , the state parliament was no longer convened. After the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815, the old order was restored. However, Article 13 of the German Federal Act stipulated that the member states should enact a national constitution. According to the understanding of the time, this meant setting up an elected representation of the nobility, cities and rural landowners instead of the old estates.
In accordance with this obligation, Princess Pauline submitted a draft constitution in 1819. However, this was not approved by the old estates and therefore did not come into force for a long time. Conversely, the prince refused to convene the Landtag as long as no approval of the constitution could be obtained. This was not the case until 1836 after long negotiations.
