Franz von Borries auf Eckendorf (born April 9, 1785 in Stade , † August 15, 1858 in Münster ) was a German manor owner , politician, government official and honorary citizen of the city of Minden .

From 1817 to 1837 Franz von Borries was district administrator of the Prussian district of Bielefeld and from 1847 to 1854 district president of the district government in Minden.

Life

Franz von Borries was the son of the old noble family von Borries , originally from Minden , which produced numerous government officials and politicians and was one of the most influential families in East Westphalia . Franz von Bories was the son of Heinrich Otto von Borries and Eleonore Sophie Grote. His brother was Philipp von Borries , who was the district administrator for the districts of Bünde and Herford .

From 1801 to 1803 Franz von Borries attended the Knight Academy in Lüneburg and then studied in Erlangen , Heidelberg and Göttingen . In 1804 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia in Erlangen .

In 1807 he was a trainee lawyer at the War and Domain Chamber in Minden and in 1808 an assessor . 1808 interrupted Franz von Borries his government career and was then royal westphälischer Maire in de facto Napoleonic France belonging to the Kingdom of Westphalia . On April 8, he was appointed District Administrator of the Bielefeld district, which he held until 1837. In 1837 Franz von Borries was appointed senior councilor and head of department at the district government in Minden, in this position he remained until his appointment as government vice-president in Magdeburg on August 5, 1844. On June 3, 1847 he was appointed regional president of the Minden district government , he held this office until his dismissal from civil service on request on June 22, 1853. von Borries was a member of the board of directors of the Rheinländisch-Westfälische Eisenbahngesellschaft.

Franz von Borries was a Protestant and with Julie Sophie Charlotte Artemisia, geb. von Bülow (born February 2, 1787; † December 31, 1860), a daughter of Friedrich Ernst von Bülow , married. The couple had ten children. His son Hermann von Borries was also district president. Around 90 years later, his relative Georg von Borries succeeded him as district president in Minden.

Franz von Borries was a member of the Provincial Landtag of the Province of Westphalia and in 1841 its Vice- Landtag Marshal (Vice President), he was also a member of the Prussian manor house .

Awards

Franz von Borries was the bearer of the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with the ribbon and since June 29, 1853 honorary citizen of the city of Minden.
