Friedrich Ludwig Heinrich von Kleist (born March 11, 1771 in Potsdam , † April 16, 1838 in Darmstadt ) was a Prussian major general .

Friedrich Ludwig Heinrich von Kleist was a member of the Pomeranian noble family von Kleist and son of General Franz Kasimir von Kleist (* 1736; † 1808) and Caroline Luise Eleonore Johanne von Kleist adH Zützen (* 1747; † 1780). Franz Alexander von Kleist was his older brother.

Career

Kleist began his career in the Prussian army in 1786 as a private corporal in the Jung-Bornstedt infantry regiment (No. 20) . In 1787 he was promoted to ensign, in 1790 to secondary lieutenant, in 1798 to prime lieutenant and in 1801 to staff captain. He took part in the Fourth Coalition War and was seriously wounded near Auerstedt . In 1809 he took his leave for the first time with the rank of major.

In the wars of liberation he was back with the troops, earned in Großbeeren the Iron Cross II. , The Russian St. Anna Order II. Class and the Swedish Order of the Sword III. Class. He then took part in the Battle of Dennewitz and was wounded again near Leipzig , but received the Russian Order of St. George, 5th Class. As early as 1815, however, he became commander of the 4th Elb Landwehr Infantry Regiment and in 1816 commander of the 6th Kurmärk Landwehr Regiment, six months later he switched to the 23rd Infantry Regiment . In 1821 he was promoted to colonel and in 1824 received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class and in 1828 the Order of St. John . In 1830 Kleist was in command of the 9th Infantry Brigade and in 1832 was promoted to major general. In 1834 he said goodbye for the last time and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, as well as the statutory pension. From 1836 he stayed permanently in Darmstadt, where he died a little later.

Kleist married Charlotte Marianne Luise Eleonore von Donop (* 1777; † 1855), daughter of Wilhelm Gottlieb Levin von Donop (* 1741; † 1819), Drost zu Schwalenberg and Obermarschall of the Principality of Lippe and Marie Henriette Johannette von in Detmold in 1799 Donop. The marriage remained without heirs.
