Bernhard Meyer (writer)

Bernhard Meyer (born August 20, 1812 in Bad Meinberg , † October 26, 1886 in Detmold ) was a German lawyer, civil servant, politician and writer.

Life

Meyer was the son of a tenant. He attended the rectorate school in Horn and then the high schools in Bückeburg, Lemgo and from 1830 in Detmold, where he passed the Abitur in 1831. He then studied law in Heidelberg, Jena and Berlin, interrupted by educational trips to Italy and Bohemia. In 1834 he passed the legal exam in Berlin. After completing his studies, he became an official auditor (trainee lawyer) at the Detmold office (the offices in Lippe were also the courts of first instance (see list of courts in the Principality of Lippe )). He then moved to the Horn office, where he also worked as a lawyer.

In 1835 he became the syndic of the city of Horn. He represented the city of Horn in the Lippe state parliament from 1836 . Also in the state elections in Lippe in 1838 and 1844 he was elected to represent the city of Horn in the state parliament.

In 1846 he was appointed government tax and chamber attorney in Detmold and promoted to government councilor in 1849. From 1868 he was the consistorial president responsible for the ministry's church and school affairs. After the regional church had received a synodal constitution in 1877, he became sovereign commissioner in the first regional synod in 1878. In 1879 he was appointed a secret councilor on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service.

From 1865 to 1886 he was administrator and curator of the Clostermeier Foundation .

He worked in the editorial department of the Vaterländische Blätter (Detmold: Meyer 1848) and published in: Die Ameise (between 1833 and 1848), Erholungsstunden (1829-1834) and various legal journals.
